![]() ![]() ![]() Path Finder also features the ability to create new files, perform basic image edits or connect to Git and Subversion. In addition to standard file browsing panels, you can display a number of panels showing information about your files. It is built around a series of six modular panels that you can configure as needed. Path Finder allows you to totally customise the interface. Where XtraFinder and TotalFinder are focused on improving Finder, Path Finder aims to totally replace it. While it has most of the features that the other two do, it also has a lot more. It is a completely different beast than XtraFinder and TotalFinder. Path Finder is available from Cocoatech for $40 after a 30-day free trial period. It also has better developer support and releases faster updates when OS X has major changes. TotalFinder has the same major feature set as XtraFinder however your $18, and the loss of a few minor tweaks, gets you more polish and less of an impact on system performance. TotalFinder is available from BinaryAge for $18 after a 14-day free trial period. In addition to tabs, which Mavericks now adds, XtraFinder offers Dual Paned file browsing, a pinned Finder window that can slide in from the bottom of your screen for quick access to your files and a load more tweaks. XtraFinder is a free application available from Tran Ky Nam Software. XtraFinder and TotalFinder are aimed at improving OS X’s default Finder application, while Path Finder is a total replacement. There are a number of third party Finder replacements available, three of the main options are XtraFinder, TotalFinder and Path Finder. But if you no longer need a third party application to get tabs, why you should get one at all? Do they have any extra features that make them worth the hassle and cost? In this tutorial, I will provide you with all you need to know to make your mind up. Tabs are the one feature that will most change how you interact with Finder. No longer do countless windows clutter up your display while you do something as simple as move a few files from your Downloads folder.įor these reasons, power users have been decrying the lack of tabs in Finder for years. While once you had to have every folder open in a separate window, that you had to keep track of, now you can keep all your file browsing confined to a single window. Just as tabs made browsing the web a much more pleasant and efficient experience, they do the same for browsing files. Why a Finder Replacement is Still a Good Idea The Importance of Tabs Is there a way to move the fuzzy slider and have it display on the screen everything it has found as you move the slider so you can set the fuzzy level to just the right level? Maybe something in the menu that is a check for “Active Fuzzy Image Display” when the display box is checked. Why a Finder Replacement is Still a Good Idea Changed it to front window and Window with index of 1 but still no luck have the time. I have moved the slider all over the place to see if I can get it to work. Even when I run it on the same Finder window I took it on Keyboard Maestro doesn’t find the image. Strange thing is this macro only works ocationally I can’t seem to get a consistent screenshot. It is like it has a limit to how wide it will go. So this may not actually solve the original problem.įor me what broke is it does resize all the columns in El Capitan but it still truncates some of the longer file names. In all sincerity thanks Keyboard Maestro and this forum for again helping people enhance their workflow, I love you!Īs far as I can see, option-double-clicking on column the separators no longer resizes all columns, it only resizes one column to fit. ![]() Now if there were only some app that let you drag folders into other folders and keep coping and nesting folders and files like Windows has done for 15+ years instead of giving you the option to replace like Mac does. "Show colorful icons on the sidebar" is wonderful to have back again after all these years! I can actually tell what is what again much faster. I understand why they got rid of it when they added multiple colors as part of tags, Xtra Finder is smart and just colors it the last color or tag color in your list if you have multiple. Thanks for pointing that out I wouldn't have found that if you hadn't mentioned it, I had to reread multiple times to find even when you did point it out, it is named "Legacy label color painting". The two things I love it for are the aforementioned column resizing and the ability to color color file names by tag, rather than just display the colored dot. ![]()
